CLEAN UP THE GULF & clean up your look Matter Of Trust uses hair clippings to soak up oil from oil spills. Come in for a cut and we’ll send them your hair.
Help is urgently needed for the Gulf Coast and this is an easy way for YOU to make a difference for wildlife, coastal communities and water quality.
Matter of Trust is a nonprofit organization calling on salons to send in hair clippings for their Hair Mat Oil Spill Program. The organization recycles hair clippings into hair mats and booms that are used to soak up oil and contain oil spills. There is no greater need for these mats than now and Matter of Trust currently has 13 locations where hair can be sent for the Gulf oil spill response.
More Ways to Make a Difference:
• Aveda’s long time Earth Month Partner, Gulf Restoration Network (GRN), is taking action to help protect the wildlife and fisheries that are so critical to the health and prosperity of the region. GRN is asking for support in response to the oil spill. You can volunteer to help with the recovery and cleanup efforts and make a difference on the ground. Or visit GRN’s website to learn more about other action alerts and ways you can help.
• National Wildlife Federation:
With more than 400 species
of fish, birds and wildlife in harm's way of the spill and spawning season, NWF is spearheading on the ground volunteer efforts.
• National Audubon Society:
Audubon has several initiatives including a Kids project to protect seaside soil.
• The Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary is asking for volunteers and donated items such as linens and toothbrushes to use in cleaning coastal birds.
• The Alabama Rivers Alliance writes: "If you are interested in volunteering to reduce the impacts of the oil spill to our Bay, please call the Mobile Bay National Estuary office at 251-431-6409 or e-mail mbnep@mobilebaynep.com with the following information: name, address, phone, e-mail, resources (ex. boat or kayak)".
